Boilers have been a staple of central heating systems since the 18th century. Although alternative heating methods have been developed since then, using heated water or steam has remained one of the most efficient and affordable ways to transfer heat throughout a home or business.

So how exactly does a boiler system work? Modern boiler systems recycle water through a closed-loop system so that additional water does not need to be added during the process. The cool water that starts inside a boiler is heated by a gas burner. Depending on the type of boiler, this water is sometimes heated to the point that it turns into steam. The hot water or steam is then pushed into a system of pipes throughout a building and radiates into the individual rooms. Once the steam returns to water and the heated water have cooled, it returns to the boiler system to be reheated.

Because boiler systems use this “radiant heating” technique, heat is typically spread much more evenly through rooms than heat from forced-air heating systems.

Boilers are an important utility for businesses and homeowners to educate themselves on. Although boilers and water heaters are comparable, they should not be confused. As stated, boilers are primarily used for heating purposes. Water heaters output hot water that is used for showers, hand washing, or cleaning.

What We Do

Here at Charlie’s Plumbing, we are proud to be one of the few commercial plumbing services that offer boiler repair and installation. This is typically a service that is offered primarily by HVAC companies, but our well-rounded team uses plumbing experts who have performed so much work on boilers that we are able to confidently offer it as one of our main services, making Charlie’s your one-stop-shop for all plumbing and heating needs.

Common issues that people face with boilers are that their building is being unevenly heated or not heated at all. If you have a boiler that is in need of a repair, we will have someone come take a look at it for you. In rare cases, repairing an old boiler isn’t the most cost-effective course of action, and our experts can help you determine if it is worth repairing. If we determine that a repair is in fact the best course of action, we will return it to normal condition as soon as possible so that you are not without hot water or heat.

If your building requires a new boiler system altogether, we will talk you through the different makes and models that are offered to find one that is best for your home and price range. Our team will then ensure that it is installed right the first time, so that we will hopefully not have to touch it again for a long time!
